The Original Easter Story is an intense, inspirational account describing the last days on earth of Jesus the Messiah. When it came time for the Son of Man to be glorified, the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and many went from the country to Jerusalem to purify themselves. At this time, as people sought Jesus, observed his signs, and came to believe in him, leaders among the chief priests, scribes, and Pharisees grew fearful of the crowd’s support for Jesus and took counsel on how they might put Jesus to death. This planning set in motion a series of events that included:
- an arrangement with Judas Iscariot (one of Jesus’ twelve disciples) whereby, for thirty pieces of silver, he would betray Jesus by identifying him to authorities
- a trial confounded by lack of clarity in charges and jurisdiction – with appearances of Jesus before High Priests Annas and Caiaphas, Roman Governor Pilate, and King Herod – but that ultimately led to Pilate’s acquiescence to the crowd shouting, “Crucify him. Let him be crucified.”
- guilt of blasphemy and condemnation to death by crucifixion, followed by a sequence of mocking and humiliating treatment of Jesus on his way to an excruciating death on the cross.
Following his death and interment in a sealed tomb, Jesus the Messiah rose from the dead. On the morning of the third day, the tomb was found open, and the body of Jesus was gone. Thereafter, Jesus revealed himself to Mary Magdalene and later to his disciples and others, in a number of different settings.
At the last, Jesus gathered with the eleven disciples on a mountain in Galilee and revealed “that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance and remission of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations.” He then commanded the disciples to “go into all the world and proclaim the good news.” Raising his hands, he blessed them and then withdrew, and Jesus the Messiah was carried up into heaven to sit “at the right hand of God.”
The Original Easter Story is an authorized selection from The Common Gospel (ISBN 978-0-9759290-4-9), which itself is a complete work that combines the four traditional Gospels and presents the Good News of Jesus in a single, unified book. In so doing, it brings clarity and focus to the history of Jesus the Messiah as it assembles the original gospel fragments to frame a naturally flowing lifeline for the Son of Man – from his humble and holy birth through to his crowning glorification. The panoramic view that results is extraordinary and casts Jesus the Messiah in new and revealing light. The Original Easter Story contains the last four parts of this larger, sixteen-part work.
